Two Maine nonprofits which support housing stability have been awarded grants of $250,000 each from the TD Charitable Foundation, the funding arm of TD Bank U.S.

The city council identified housing as critical component for the community's well-being and economic vitality. But undeveloped, reasonably priced acreage is scarce.

The funding will improve transportation scheduling and operations in in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset and Kennebec counties.

Kara Hay was recognized for her leadership at Penquis, which has more than 75 programs promoting affordable housing, financial stability, reliable transportation, school readiness and healthy lives.
