The 1857 Italianate mansion that stands on the corner of Spring and High Streets in Portland's arts district has been carefully repurposed to preserve the character of the building while adapting it for present-day use as architectural offices.
Cost increases for the redevelopment of a 19th-century Bethel home into apartments prompted a community campaign to raise funds for completing the project.
Demolition has uncovered intriguing bits of history, including wood trim pieces signed by the original carpenter. A printed advertisement from 1920 was used as a shim.
The work has been Woodhull’s entry into design for health care. ConvenientMD "wanted a different type of vision for health care,” said Patrick Boothe, director of Woodhull's commercial studio.
