Developers are getting projects done in Maine — and Greater Portland in particular — because the numbers support development and with construction costs lower than other areas.

The charitable arm of Gorham-based Shaw Brothers Construction is developing a 9,600-square-foot events venue to both support the local farmers' market and to host other events too.

The multifaceted deal included reaching terms on the sale, a new lease for a major tenant and a construction loan for renovations. “A lot of these layers were hitting at the same time,” said the broker.

The 17-member group will develop recommendations on large-scale data center projects in a report due to Maine's next governor and state lawmakers by January 2027.

“People are very concerned about the rapid proliferation of data centers driven by AI and cloud computing. I share that concern," said Mayor David Morse.
