A survey of Maine employers by the Healthcare Purchasers Alliance of Maine found that 29% have curtailed wage increases as a way of coping with higher health care premiums.

The move is expected to save Maine’s largest health system about $1.5 million annually and reduce the need for capital investment in non-clinical settings.

Prescriby identified Maine as a location for its second clinic through a “Nordic Health Hackathon” in Iceland in 2019, sponsored by the Maine International Trade Center.

The joint program offers a fully online pathway from medical laboratory technician to medical laboratory science and the state’s only bachelor’s degree in this field.

“Street medicine programs — care delivered directly in encampments, on the street and in other nontraditional settings — have emerged as a critical strategy,” said MaineHealth Behavioral Health’s chief.

“Family caregivers are a major economic force that fills critical gaps in our health care system,” said Noël Bonam, state director of AARP Maine.

The Match Day event took place March 20 in the university's new state-of-the art medical education facility, the Harold and Bibby Alfond Center for Health Sciences, which opened for the current academic year.

The contract includes pay increases for every union nurses, from 12% to 17% over the next three years and a weapons ban at the hospital building.  

The RNs are protesting “management’s refusal” to address their concerns about safe staffing and nurse retention. EMMC said it provided the union “a very strong offer.”
