The JobLink website has two new tools to assist job seekers looking to explore new opportunities.

Nonfarm wage and salary jobs in Maine rose by 1,700 in April on a seasonally adjusted basis over the previous month, driven by hiring gains in health care and business and professional services.

Registered nurses said they are concerned about “emergency department staffing and its impact on patient care.”

The program provides employees up to 12 weeks of benefits for major life events, starting May 1. Funding for the benefits will be supported by payroll taxes.

The agreement includes compounding wage growth of 28% over the four-year contract, up from the 23.8% the shipyard initially proposed.

“General Dynamics continues to make record profits off our labor…” said a labor representative. The shipyard said the proposed contract “includes historic annual wage increases…”

The contract includes pay increases for every union nurses, from 12% to 17% over the next three years and a weapons ban at the hospital building.  

The RNs are protesting “management’s refusal” to address their concerns about safe staffing and nurse retention. EMMC said it provided the union “a very strong offer.”

The three-year contract also includes more meal break coverage as well as financial and time-off benefits to help retain and recruit experienced nurses.
