The idea for the Coastal Enterprises Inc. program emerged from a pre-pandemic listening tour in rural Maine, where residents reported a lack of quality child care was affecting their ability to work full time.
The money will be split among three organizations that could also use the funds to help preserve neighborhoods and/or educate residents about homeownership.
The new allocation will be deployed primarily in manufacturing businesses, with a focus on companies that provide quality jobs for people with low incomes
