The program is designed to boost affordable rental housing development. It provides up to $10 million annually, with a maximum possible allocation of $15 million in any one year, including carried-forward credits.
Federal and state tax credits will be used to finance dwellings for older adults and families across eight development sites in the cities of Biddeford, Belfast, Lewiston, Portland, South Portland and Rockland.
Issues on the agenda for the full day conference include recent housing-related legislation, the impact of Maine's economy on home affordability and availability, and how modular and manufactured housing can help meet the state's needs.
MaineHousing has awarded the last of state subsidies to three apartment projects that will create 129 affordable housing units in Lewiston and Portland.
State subsidies have since 2022 helped to fund more than 200 affordable housing units. The latest round of dollars will support the creation of another 137, all in rural communities.
