The Maine Outdoor Economy Summit, scheduled to be held in Portland Jan. 21-23, is designed to be a meeting ground for sharing ideas and actions across the industry.
Maine Outdoor Brands is creating a student advisory board to serve as a bridge between the next generation of leaders and the state's $3.4 billion outdoor recreation industry.
The effort is led by Maine Outdoor Brands, Maine’s Office of Outdoor Recreation, the University of Maine, Maine’s Bureau of Parks and Lands, Maine Technology Institute and the Maine Marine Trades Association
Outdoor recreation made up 3.7% of Maine’s economy, ranking Maine one of the top 10 states in the value that the sector contributed to gross domestic product.
Starting in January, the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands will begin a competitive grant program to provide $7.5 million per year for trail design, maintenance and construction.
