Shaw Brothers Construction is the contractor on two projects at Maine's largest airport set to start on April 23 and wrap up on Nov. 23.

The carrier announced on Tuesday that it will add seasonal nonstop flights to Akron-Canton Airport, operating on Thursdays and Sundays, and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, operating on Mondays and Fridays.

More than 2.59 million passengers flew in and out of the Portland International Jetport in 2025. Overall traffic at the jetport broke the 2024 record of 2.43 million passengers. 

Nonstop weekly flights from Maine's largest airport to San Francisco and Los Angeles are scheduled to start June 27.

Officials are vetting three proposals to oversee all food and drink spaces in Maine's largest airport, with plans to issue an award in December.

“Clearly, we do not need additional unpredictability,” Patrick Woodcock, president and CEO of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, told Mainebiz hours after the federal government shut down over a budget dispute.

"We value our partnership with PWM and will continue to evaluate a return in the future," a spokesman for the low-cost carrier told Mainebiz.

The biggest chunk of the funding, $11.3 million, will go to the Portland International Jetport for projects including terminal expansion.

Amenities include ADA accessible toilets and the ability to use a passenger boarding bridge to board flights instead of walking outside and using exterior boarding ramps.

At least 72 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the July 4th holiday, according to AAA.
