The national average price of gasoline has jumped more than 50 cents in the past week, reaching $3.45 per gallon, according to data from GasBuddy.
The spike comes as rising tensions and military conflict in the Middle East push global oil prices higher.
Gas prices are now 54.1 cents higher than a month ago and 41.6 cents higher than this time last year. The national average price for diesel rose 85.9 cents in the last week, climbing to almost $5 per gallon.
In Maine, as of Monday gas prices are $3.586 per gallon, according to AAA.
For businesses, this could affect anything from deliveries and transportation, cost of goods, shipping and overall business operations.
