Maine's fall fair season kicked off this past weekend with the Common Ground Country Fair, bringing with it some of the traditions that make this time of year a favorite for so many Mainers: fried dough and cider donuts, livestock and agricultural exhibits, live entertainment, local crafts and vendors.

The Cumberland Fair started Sunday and runs through Oct. 3, continuing a fair season that runs through November.

Up next is the Taste of Harvest in Lewiston on Sept. 30, the Freeport Fall Festival on Oct. 2-4 and the Fryeburg Fair on Oct. 4-11.
