Mainers — and residents of all states except Arizona and Hawaii, which don't observe daylight saving time — will get an extra hour of sleep when the timekeeping standard ends this Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m.

In recent years, lawmakers including the Maine Legislature have considered making DST permanent. Advocates on both sides of the idea have made strong cases, citing effects of the clock changes on human health, traffic accidents, crime and more.

How do you feel about year-round daylight saving time, and "springing ahead" once and for all?

Would Mainers be better off if we didn't have to reset clocks twice a year because of daylight saving time?

If we're not going to change it, then leave it on STANDARD time. Otherwise keep on falling back and springing forward.

Keep it on standard time. It's safer for the kids catching the morning bus or walking to school if they aren't waiting or walking in darkness. Besides, moving the hands of a clock around doesn't make the daylight hours any longer.

Only if everyone on East time does it

I voted 'yes', but honestly am tired of hearing about this year after year. The reasons for year round DST are clear. The need to change the clocks is not at all clear. Is there some giant lobby for keeping the time zone in a state of flux? Is it a Russian conspiracy? Just do it!

It is difficult to readjust to the time changes and takes a while to get sleep and activities on the new schedule. Leave it alone!
