Construction has begun on the Lambert Woods North apartments at 2274 Washington Ave. Extension in Portland, phase one of a large affordable housing development that will eventually include 162 apartments.
The arts help prepare students for the workforce by strengthening creative, critical-thinking and communication skills. Construction will break ground in early January.
The online retailing giant is proposing to build a 158,000-square-foot building with parking for 903 vehicles on a 93-acre site in the Gorham Industrial Park off Main Street, which is also Route 25.
“The pump track has already been widely used, and we know this new structure will enable it to be a gathering place for birthday parties, picnics and enhance its role in the community,” said one town official.
Amazon will face a site plan review before the planning board, followed by consideration by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, the Maine Department of Transportation and possibly the Army Corps of Engineers.
At the two-story, 1,850-square-foot studio and shop, five employees in an upstairs studio are working away, creating hand-printed goods and sewing, while preparing to ship or sell them.
