The competitive grant program is designed to help businesses fund a single capital purchase — such as equipment, technology or facility upgrades — that will help drive expansion, increase production or enhance market reach. 

The shop grew from from a small storefront in downtown Gorham and now has five Maine locations. The new owner has two decades of experience in the cycling industry.

While Jøtul USA Inc. started out as an importer of Norwegian woodstoves, today the stoves are built entirely in Gorham, where the company has 75 employees (of which 45 are on the manufacturing side).

The project helps meet Gorham’s quest for diverse housing options. Young professionals and people looking to downsize are a potential customer base and workforce.

All 13 Flowfold employees, including its two founders, will stay with the company under the ownership of Tempshield LLC.

Gorham-based Great Falls Construction will serve as general contractor, Ryan Senatore Architecture of Portland, is handling design, and BH2M of Gorham is the project’s civil engineer. 

Branches slated for closure are located in Gorham, Fairfield, Fort Kent and Houlton.

The Gorham Connector proposal has been taken off the table and officials are embarking on another study in an effort to address congestion.

Many riders live in the Gorham area, where the new store will be more centrally located than the Portland store. The buyer market has room to grow with younger people.
