The nonprofit has grown from one staffer to eight, with over 300 volunteers annually and a growing portfolio of housing developments. The goal is to triple its space.
Proceeds from the sales are invested into upgrades at other locations. In Portland, the bank had maxxed out its downtown facility, which resulted in a lease in the Old Port.
The midcoast has had a number of key developments of late, including the sale of a major boatyard, a yacht launch by a significant boatbuilder and debate over housing for the “missing middle.”
Rockport Marine built the yacht Ouzel to the specifications of Langan Design Partners, of Newport, R.I., with interior design by Mark Whiteley Design, of Lymington, U.K.
An estimated 12.5% of Maine’s population rely on SNAP benefits, though that percentage is higher in Androscoggin, Aroostook, Washington, Piscataquis and Somerset counties.
While the yacht Ouzel was designed in Newport, R.I., it is the expertise brought by a Rockport boatyard that is getting the vessel ready for the high seas.
The vessel, which Rockport Marine expects to complete this fall, has been years in the making and positions the boatyard to better take on European rivals.
