The new, lobster-style vessel replaces a smaller one that was 22 years old when it was damaged by an electrical fire in 2019.

Infrastructure dating back half a century will be rebuilt. “We’re bringing the laboratory into the 21st century,” said the center’s director, Heather Leslie.

LCI, a division of Lincolnville Telephone Family of Companies, said its new O.P.E.N. fiber optic network is now available to many homes and business in some Midcoast communities.
