Both companies have launched first-in-the-U.S. products, and are now looking to scale up.

American Unagi’s recirculating aquaculture systems facility is the first in the U.S. to grow Maine eels to market size.

Greg Leighton will be succeeded by Justin Edelstein, a CPA who most recently worked at Camden National Bank.

The funds will be distributed to towns and cities that have seen economic impacts on affordable housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The $5,000 fellowships recognize artistic excellence and aim to advance to the careers of Maine artists.

Leann Cailler is a 2022 Producer of the Year and also received the Award of Distinction in 2021.

A total of $2,027,149 in funding has been awarded to 10 Maine agribusinesses and farms through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Value-Added Producer Grant Program.

The lab is one of the largest users of a new Waldoboro solar farm, which is generating 85% of the lab’s electricity. The development adds to Bigelow’s green initiatives, which include on-campus solar and EV-charging stations. 

After construction of the 27,000-square-foot facility is complete, likely next spring, American Unagi will be able to produce enough eels to meet 5% of all U.S. demand, the company says.

Newly funded solar energy projects are in the works for Baldwin, Waldoboro and Gardiner, where ground-mounted and roof installations are planned with interconnection and net energy billing agreements in place with Central Maine Power.
