A total of $2,027,149 in funding has been awarded to 10 Maine agribusinesses and farms through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Value-Added Producer Grant Program.
The lab is one of the largest users of a new Waldoboro solar farm, which is generating 85% of the lab’s electricity. The development adds to Bigelow’s green initiatives, which include on-campus solar and EV-charging stations.Â
After construction of the 27,000-square-foot facility is complete, likely next spring, American Unagi will be able to produce enough eels to meet 5% of all U.S. demand, the company says.
Newly funded solar energy projects are in the works for Baldwin, Waldoboro and Gardiner, where ground-mounted and roof installations are planned with interconnection and net energy billing agreements in place with Central Maine Power.
