Hiring remains difficult across a broad range of jobs in the tight labor market, despite the fact that the additional payments to jobless Mainers have stopped.

The competition identifies promising technologies to help address the climate and Maine’s clean energy goals. Companies in Biddeford and Wiscasset were each awarded $250,000.

The Wiscasset business, featuring a tasting and learning center, opened several weeks ago to highlight Maine products through educational events, showcases and tastings. The family business is geared toward agritourism.

Gov. Janet Mills is proposing a 10-year moratorium on new wind-power projects in ocean waters managed by the state. But the measure may be little solace to groups concerned about a research array of wind turbines to be sited farther offshore.

While this isn’t an easy year to run any business or start a new one, four newcomers to Maine’s craft beer industry may be defying expectations. The startups are in Belfast, Pittsfield, West Bath and Wiscasset.

Two Maine airports were awarded funds for runway and terminal improvements, as part of nearly $800 million in federal investment.

Rhode Island-based 1772 foundation, in partnership with Maine Preservation, considered 48 projects from across the state that were seeking nearly half a million dollars for things like roof repairs, fire safety and solar installation.

While the pandemic grounds much air travel, five Maine airports have received a total of $6.1 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program.

The nonprofit group has approached some of Maine’s port communities about hosting visits by the historic sailing vessels, as part of the state’s bicentennial this year. Boothbay Harbor has already signed on.

Several new buildings are planned for Camp Chewonki as well as updates to existing facilities as part of the plan, which is scheduled for completion by early next summer in time for the 2020 camp season.
