W.S. Emerson creates customized branded collections for business customers from its 40,000-square-foot site in Brewer.

This collaboration will allow more affordable options for individuals and small businesses in Aroostook, Hancock, Piscataquis, Penobscot and Somerset counties. 

The retroactive clause means care delivered since Nov. 1 will be treated as in-network for Anthem members.

Patients who are Anthem customers can continue to receive care with Northern Light and won’t be treated as out of network, said Northern Lights president and CEO.

Dr. R. Guy Hudson assumed the role as president and CEO of the Brewer-based health system last week.

As a result of the extension, Northern Light physicians and medical providers will remain in-network with Anthem employer-sponsored and individual health plans through Oct. 31, rather than Oct. 1.

After bumpy mediation talks last week, the organizations issued separate accusatory statements. Each vowed to return to the table.

Affected roles were primarily in non-clinical areas, but also included some patient-care roles. About two-thirds of the 308 positions affected are open positions that will not be filled.

If the two organizations are unable to agree to terms, Northern Light will be out of network with Anthem.
