Legislation wending through the U.S. Senate would improve access from the south and better connect the monument to the Millinocket region and major roadways.

As part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, events are planned across Maine with complimentary safety vests, insulated work gloves, travel mugs and free coffee for truck drivers.

Susan M. Collins talked with Mainebiz as she wrapped up a visit to Biddeford, Bangor and Millinocket for meetings with business leaders and local companies.

The request is significantly reduced from the 42,000 acres requested in 2022, in a bill cosponsored at that time by U.S. Sens. Angus King, I-Maine, and Susan Collins, R-Maine. 

Touted as an energy breakthrough, the combined heat and power system will use wood waste and “super-critical carbon dioxide” energy conversion turbine technology.

Staffing shortages have forced Millinocket Regional Hospital to shutter the clinic for now. The hospital still plans to double the size of its emergency department, despite a setback in the state review process.

The next solar eclipse is due on Monday, April 8. Northern and eastern Maine are considered prime spots to witness the eclipse (safely, with special glasses, of course).

The proposed area is next to three state heritage fish waters and is at the center of the region's growing outdoor economy.

Katahdin Salmon Inc. will be at the site of the former Millinocket Paper Mill, which closed in 2008. The loan will help create up to 80 jobs in Millinocket.

A $35 million fundraising campaign for Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument includes Wabanaki-directed projects.
