Earlier this month, Preservation Timber Framing of Berwick began a structural and restoration cost assessment of the buildings, with a focus on the herring smokehouse structure.

The Southwest Harbor Water and Sewer District has been awarded a $4.25 million grant and a low-interest loan of $5 million to help with the increased cost of equipment and materials for its wastewater treatment upgrades. 

Removal of century-old tin panels uncovered original trompe-l'œil stenciling. Four 2,000-pound steel I-beams were Lincoln-logged into place with an engine hoist.

The funds will be distributed to towns and cities that have seen economic impacts on affordable housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Bids submitted earlier this year came in significantly over budget. The select board noted the state has the resources to get the project done.

The pandemic crippled the industry in 2020. The crisis eased in 2021, but restaurants continued to face challenges that included workforce shortages and supply chain issues. The businesses are responding with shorter hours, revised menus and new technology.

The proposal responded to concerns around the potential for large finfish farms to expand into Maine. But Lubec residents have noted the contributions to the local economy by a current farmer.

In 2019, the town was awarded $19.6 million for construct a breakwater and other infrastructure to protect the fleet in inclement weather.

The New York Times and Vogue magazine placed Maine among elite groups of travel and restaurant destinations, respectively.

The recipients plan to use the funds to improve access to health care, with the goals of building healthy communities, strengthening the health care workforce and achieving health equity.
