Faced with a “significant and sustained decline in enrollment,” the Landing School of Boatbuilding & Design, based in Arundel for close to 50 years, has announced it graduated its final class this spring.
The Landing School launched the program as a corporate philanthropy initiative designed to invest in the next generation of marine trades professionals.
The Arundel-based Landing School, which offers training for boatbuilders and designers, said Sean Fawcett, who led the school for two years, will step down at the end of December.
It’s expected the curriculum at the Landing School will prepare graduates to find employment as entry-level department leads, project managers, service managers, or yard managers in the marine industry.
Production earlier this year was up, way up, from the totals in 2021 and 2020. Maine producers turned out syrup in the third-largest quantity of any U.S. state. And the yield for each tap increased, too.
Over 100 sugarhouses opened their doors over Maine Maple Sunday Weekend, drawing thousands of people to see, smell and taste the work of the country's third-largest maple industry.
