Farmers are increasingly working with solar developers to convert agricultural acreage to power arrays. But there's a growing worry that Maine is losing critical farmland.
With up to 12 turbines, the primary purpose of the array is to evaluate floating offshore wind technology and the energy it produces as a renewable resource.
“Think of me as a ‘technology matchmaker,’” said Brien Walton, associate professor of entrepreneurship and director of the Richard E. Dyke Center for Family Business at Husson.
The research array is intended to study interactions with the marine environment, fishing industry, shipping and navigation routes and to inform commercial development of the technology.
Designed and installed by ReVision Energy and Favreau Electric, the array is anticipated to produce the equivalent of nearly 3% of the Biddeford campus’ annual electricity consumption.
