Auburn Manufacturing plans to break ground on a $1.4 million expansion next month, doubling the size of its facility at Auburn's Kittyhawk Industrial Park.
With the expansion, the company plans to hire four more workers as production continues to pick up, the Sun Journal reported.
The company, which produces rope, tape, thermal barriers and other extreme-temperature fabrics, in March landed a $2 million, three-year federal contract for high-temperature silica fabric. Recently, the Mechanics Falls-based company printed its first Spanish-language brochure that it will use for a trade show in Mexico.
CEO Kathie Leonard told the paper that the expansion picks up where previous expansion plans — shelved amid a bad economy — left off.
The new investment will add 22,500 square feet to the Auburn plant. The company intends to produce products for new markets, such as providing fire-retardant hot and cold barriers for data centers.
