Maine State Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Richmond, has been appointed to serve as the head of the U.S. Small Business Administration's Northeast regional office and will resign his seat in the Maine Senate this year.
Goodall will begin overseeing SBA operations through district offices in Augusta, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont in June, following the adjournment of the Maine Legislature, according to an SBA press release.
The position, based out of the SBA's Boston office, is a direct presidential appointment for which Goodall was recommended in April 2012 by U.S. Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree.
The Bangor Daily News reported the post has typically been filled by a Mainer. The previous New England administrator was Jeanne Hulit, who was a senior vice president for commercial lending at Citizens Bank prior to her SBA appointment, and others have included former Secretary of State Charlie Summers and former gubernatorial candidate Pat McGowan.
In addition to serving in the Maine Senate, Goodall is a partner at the law firm Dyer Goodall P.A., and previously co-owned a landscaping company based in Topsham.
The BDN reported Goodall will also leave his law practice as he takes on the SBA position.
