Thompson’s Point lands circus conservatory tenant
Developers of Thompson’s Point in Portland say a nonprofit circus conservatory has plans to open its doors in space at the complex now under development along the Fore River.
The Portland Press Herald reported the newly formed Circus Conservatory of American plans to renovate a 33,000-square-foot brick building within the development. Peter Nielsen, an officer for the new nonprofit conservatory, told the paper that students of the school will be able to earn a bachelor of fine arts degree in contemporary circus performance, a brand of circus that is more like Cirque du Soleil than Ringling Brothers. The school plans to have a full enrollment of around 120 students.
The announcement is the latest in a series of emerging developments at Thompson’s Point. Earlier this month, development group Forefront Partners I closed on its purchase of the land for its $105 million project. A day later, the developers announced they had secured an agreement with Suburban Propane, a business located at the site of the redevelopment project, to vacate its site and relocate elsewhere in Portland.
