Camden voters to decide on $2M Snow Bowl bond

Camden voters will go to the polls in one week to decide whether to approve a $2 million bond that would fund upgrades to the Camden Snow Bowl ski area.

The Maine Public Broadcasting Network reported proponents of the bond say upgrades to boost the ski area’s snowmaking capacity would bring in more traffic to the mountain, which has had seasonal traffic of around 30,000 skiers and snowboarders in recent years. The vote Tuesday comes after voters approved a nonbinding resolution in 2008, saying they would approve a $2 million bond if backers could raise $4.5 million for the upgrades from private donations, which they have done.

The Bangor Daily News reported supporters of the local bond recently released an economic impact study that says the four-season recreation area generates more than $5 million annually in the area. The ski area employs 73 employees, most of whom are seasonal and part time.
