County officials hope to evict Oxford Aviation, an airplane refurbisher, from space at the Oxford County Regional Airport, where they say the company has violated multiple terms of its lease.
The Sun Journal reported the county filed its lawsuit at the 11th District Court on Oct. 29, claiming the company violated 11 terms of a lease it signed with county commissioners less than one year ago. A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13. The lease, which does not require rent but calls for the company to pay for and document building maintenance, is set to expire in 2027.
The paper reported County Administrator Scott Cole sent a letter to the company on Sept. 23 that listed seven separate lease violations and gave notice that the county intended to start eviction proceedings. The letter said those violations included not informing the county when the Federal Aviation Administration revoked the company’s repair license in June, failing to conduct airport maintenance to FAA standards, not providing quarterly maintenance reports for the second quarter of 2013 and failing to provide the county proof of insurance.
The company is facing two other lawsuits, one from lender Community Concepts Finance Corp. and another from an Ohio couple seeking more than $674,000 in damages based on allegations that the company failed to properly reattach part of the tail of their plane, which they said caused them to crash land the plane in Colorado in May. The lender alleges the company defaulted on a $62,500 loan made in 1996.
