AG files complaint against Nevada travel co.

Maine Attorney General Janet Mills has filed a lawsuit against the Nevada-based Festiva Hospitality Group after complaints from Maine customers that the company has misrepresented terms of a 40-year contract outlining membership in its vacation club.

The complaint alleges that the company and its affiliates engaged in high-pressure sales tactics at the Rangeley Lake Resort and at its office on Riverside Drive in Portland. The complaint further alleges the company’s system of using points to book vacations was deceptive, not allowing customers to carry over points from one year to another.

“Festiva pressured Maine consumers into buying an expensive but basically worthless product using misleading tactics,” Mills said in a press release.

State officials in Louisiana have also initiated a lawsuit against Festiva.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified where the vacation company Festiva is based. The company's corporate offices are in Florida and it is incorporated in Nevada.
