The Professional Bowlers Association plans to host at least one event in Maine next February, a decision announced after PBA officials toured the state last week.
Brian Corcoran, president and owner of sports marketing firm Shamrock Entertainment, wrote in an email that PBA officials identified four prospective southern Maine venues where it plans to host at least one event for its professional tour or its new team-based league, featuring celebrity team owners.
Corcoran said Portland’s Bayside Bowl would likely serve as a headquarters venue, hosting finals for ESPN broadcasts and Pro-Am events while Sparetime in Portland, Yankee Lanes in Brunswick and Easy Day in South Portland could host qualifying rounds or Pro-Am events.
In late 2012, Shamrock landed the PBA League, which has celebrity-owned teams, as a client. Shamrock’s primary role was to secure sponsors for teams and find celebrities interested in serving as celebrity owners.
Tom Clark, PBA commissioner, said in a press release that the bowling organization will set a date for venues and identify sponsors for an event or events in Maine in the next 60 days.
Corcoran estimated a week-long PBA event would result in 750 hotel room bookings over one week.
