C&L Aerospace's $5M Bangor expansion will mean more jobs

C&L Aerospace, a global aviation services company, is celebrating the completion of its new $5 million headquarters expansion in Bangor, paving the way for more jobs and work.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the aviation services company unveiled its new 120,000-square-foot building in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The expanded space will provide more room than its original 40,000-square foot hangar facility.

As previously reported by Mainebiz, C&L Aerospace’s new expansion could help the company add 40 new jobs to its current 130-person workforce. It will also help the company bring in new work, including a $10 million deal it struck with a Swedish company to buy 14 Saab 340B airplanes that will be refurbished in Bangor before being resold.

"We're growing, we're building new facilities that triple the space we'll have [at Bangor International Airport]," Chris Kilgour, CEO of C&L Aerospace, told Mainebiz in April.

C&L Aerospace is among other Maine aviation companies that are experiencing an increase in demand for aviation services, Mainebiz reported. The 2014 market economic assessment for Maine by the Aeronautical Repair Station Association and TeamSAi Consulting puts total employment for Maine's aviation maintenance industry at 1,052 workers, with an economic impact of $124.7 million. Both figures reflect an upward trend from ARSA's 2009 report, which tallied 984 aviation maintenance workers in Maine and an impact of roughly $120 million.
