The three-day music portion of the KahBang Festival has been canceled, two weeks after organizers announced a last-minute relocation from Bangor to Portland.
Organizer Joshua Gass told patrons in an email Thursday afternoon that the cancellation was the result of "several setbacks," including losing major sponsors, MaineToday.com reported.
The music portion — which was scheduled Aug. 7-10 across three Portland venues and was expected to feature more than 30 performers, including rapper DMC and indie rock act St. Vincent — was considered the main attraction of the six-year-old festival.
"We are sorry to our fans for letting them down, but we just don't have the ability to maintain our vision for the event for this year," Gass wrote in the email. "No one is more saddened and apologetic at this development than we (KahBang volunteers) are. While we made every effort to find alternative solutions, ultimately the setbacks proved insurmountable."
The festival's film and art portions are still scheduled to happen in Portland that weekend.
KahBang organizers have said the festival was relocated Portland because of a series of logistics issues in Bangor. Low ticket sales and the inability to locate a nearby campsite for attendees and artists were two such issues.
The city of Bangor voided its five-year contract with the KahBang Festival earlier this month, leaving the festival without a reserved space on the Bangor Waterfront for 2015 and 2016.
