New wireless ISP gets Pine Tree Zone status
Redzone Wireless LLC, a newly formed wireless Internet service provider in Camden, has been certified as a Pine Tree Development Zone company.
The newcomer expects to launch a high-speed Internet network early this year based on 4G LTE advanced wireless technology and targeted at both residential and business customers in Maine.
The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development said Thursday that Redzone plans to create close to two dozen jobs in its first two years and invest more than $5.6 million.
The service provider will be headquartered in the Knox Mill Complex. It also plans to develop a new customer and network operations center in the same complex. It is expected to open in February.
Maine’s DECD set up the Pine Tree Development Zone program to support job creation and new business development in selected state regions. The program gives multi-year incentives for certified companies to encourage capital investment in new operations and create high-quality jobs.
“We believe that the Pine Tree Development Zone Program is essential to our expansion, and we are confident that Camden will be an excellent location for our business development,” Redzone President and CEO Jim McKenna said in a prepared statement.
The company is to start operating its wireless broadband network in the first quarter of this year pending final approval from the Federal Communications Commission, which is expected in January.
The company’s www.redzonewireless.com website will show coverage area maps and customer tools to set up service and manage their account.
