LePage calls Verso 'bottom feeders'

Gov. Paul LePage said the chance of reopening the shuttered Bucksport mill is “little to none,” calling Verso Paper "bottom feeders" just after the company won a court victory in its plan to sell the mill to a Canadian scrap metal company.

After speaking to the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, LePage told the Kennebec Journal Wednesday that he has "no respect for [Verso] at all," adding that he has "lost all respect for bottom feeders." He suggested Verso, which still runs a mill in Jay with 850 people, should leave the state, "never to be seen again."  LePage said he doesn't dispute the court's decision to allow the sale.

John Butera, LePage's economic adviser, said the governor's office is still working to connect potential buyers to scrap metal company American Iron & Metal in order to keep the mill running.
