Bowdoin College names new president

Bowdoin College has named a Harvard Business School faculty member as its next president, taking over the mantle from departing leader Barry Mills.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Clayton S. Rose will start on July 1 after he was unanimously approved by the college's board of trustees on Monday. Mills announced last year that he was planning to step down.

The newspaper quoted board chairwoman Deborah Jensen Barker as saying that Rose "is immensely qualified academically, combining a passion for the liberal arts and a dedication to teaching and learning with extensive leadership experience." She added, "He’s going to be terrific as Bowdoin’s next president.”

Rose, who joined Harvard in 2007, has taught courses on ethics and an elective called "reimagining capitalism,” a course that "explores business engagement with society's larger problems."
