Orono startup receives $225K NSF grant
Orono-based Revolution Research Inc. is receiving a nearly $225,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for the development of a new kind of foam board insulation.
The Portland Press Herald reported that Revolution Research, founded by two University of Maine graduates, will use the grant to prototype a fire-retardant and water-resistant thermal insulation foam board. The company said it will be the first of its kind to be 100% eco-friendly.
Earlier this year, Revolution Research won the UMaine Business Challenge’s $5,000 award, which the company used to hire a consultant that helped them prepare an application for the NSF grant. If prototyping works out, the company may be eligible for NSF’s next round of funding for up to $750,000, which would help cover commercialization costs.
