Season pass holders at Saddleback Maine say the ski resort’s silence on whether it will open this winter has left them frustrated and in limbo.
The Rangeley ski resort announced in October that they were in negotiations with a prospective buyer, but the owners and general manager have remained silent since.
Chris Farmer, Saddleback's general manager, declined to reveal any details to Boston.com earlier this month about the potential sale, and the ski resort owners, Bill and Irene Berry, wouldn’t provide a comment to the Portland Press Herald last week.
The future of the ski resort has been in doubt since its owners said in July that the mountain wouldn't open for the upcoming season without $3 million in funding for a new central ski lift. It's been on the market since 2012, when its owners listed the property for $12 million.
The Press Herald reported that some people have paid up to $2,000 for season passes to the resort and don’t know if they should buy season passes for ski resorts elsewhere. Saddleback said in July that all season pass holders will be reimbursed and all vendors will be paid if the resort doesn’t open this winter, but pass holders have been told they can’t get refunds yet, according to the Press Herald.
