Bangor is high on the list for a Krispy Kreme franchise, according to franchisee Cort Mendez, who owns NH Glazed LLC and recently won the right to expand the doughnut chain into Maine and New Hampshire, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Mendez told the paper he’ll look at a few locations for a rollout that would see the first location open in about one year, with other locations rolling out in years to follow.
Krispy Kreme is one of the two biggest national donut chains in a $13 billion industry, according to franchisechatter.com.
Founded in 1937, the chain in 2015 opened its 1,000th store, according to the company’s website.
In Maine, doughnuts have become a popular niche, with the opening or expansion of businesses such as Holy Donut in Portland, Dirty Dozen Donuts in Sanford, Tony’s Donuts in Portland and Frosty’s Donuts in Brunswick, Gardiner, Bath and Freeport.
