Mercy Hospital offers early retirement buyouts

As part of an effort to cut expenses as it plans to consolidate operations at its Portland-based Fore River location, Mercy Hospital has offered early retirement buyouts to 99 employees.

The Portland Press Herald reports that the one-time offer is available to employees who have worked for Mercy for at least a decade and are over 60 years old. Nurses are among those eligible for the buyout, but positions including doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants are not, according to the Press Herald.

Eligible Mercy employees have 45 days to make a decision about the buyout, which was offered on Tuesday via email. Those who take the hospital up on its offer will receive a week’s pay for every year they have been employed for up to 52 weeks, according to the Press Herald.
