Several Maine communities have enacted, or are actively pursuing, moratoriums on marijuana social clubs and retail storefronts in advance of this coming election, when voters in the state will decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana use.
During a first vote, Westbrook City Council unanimously voted in favor of six-month moratorium on recreational marijuana facilities within the city, which officials will use as time to weigh possible regulations or an outright ban on the facilities, according to the Portland Press Herald.
A second, final vote for the Westbrook moratorium will happen the night before Election Day and if it passes, the city will join both Brewer and Gray, which have already adopted similar six-month moratoriums, the Press Herald reported.
