Developer of scrutinized East End condo scales back construction

Facing a possible threat of a development moratorium on lots surrounding Fort Sumner Park by the Portland City Council, the developer of a controversial Sheridan Street condominium says that he will decrease the building’s height from six to four stories.
For several months, the 155 Sheridan St. condo development has been met with resistance by many neighborhood residents as the originally planned building would have risen above the lip of Fort Sumner Park, blocking a popular vista of the city and the Back Cove, the Bangor Daily News reported.
“We are prepared to consider even further reductions in density if that’s what it takes to reach consensus,” development consultant Patrick Venne told the BDN. “Our hope is to move forward as any other applicant would: unimpeded by moratoria and uncertainty.”
The BDN reported that an official development plan has yet to be proposed to the city and that it’s uncertain if the moratorium, which is up for a vote at the next City Council meeting, will be passed with a majority vote.
