Machias restaurant rebrands itself as nano brewery

Skywalker’s, which opened in Machias in 2013, is reinventing itself as a nano brewery, Machias River Brewing Co.

The  Bangor Daily News reported that owners John and Danielle Parker made the transition from a Tex-Mex bar and grille to brewery by adding a 50-liter electric brewing system and a half-dozen 60-liter barrels. Each batch produces enough to fill about two kegs, which will supply the restaurant.

“We’re in the process of rebranding,” John Parker told the BDN.

Maine has 90 breweries, according to the Maine Brewers’ Guild.

In recent years, Machias has a variety of downtown developments that are revitalizing the community’s year-round business potential and bolstering its identity as a draw for seasonal visitors. That includes the rebuilding of Helen's Restaurant, which had burned down, opening a new Machias Chamber of Commerce office and visitor center and the relocation and expansion of the French Cellar.
