Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan reported some former patients at the hospital have been targeted by a phishing scam involving automated phone calls asking for personal financial information.
The Waterville Sentinel reported that the phone scam offers help in paying hospital bills and requests financial information such as credit card numbers over the phone.
In a release on the hospital’s website, hospital officials say the call comes from a local phone number: 207-858-2308. They encourage people to immediately hang up if they receive one of these calls, or block the number if it appears on a caller ID.
“Our data systems remain secure and intact, there has been no security breach,” said Redington-Fairview Systems Manager Dan Connelly. “The scammers do not have any of your personal information. They are hoping their victims will provide financial information, such as credit card numbers, over the phone.”
The hospital said its administration and security personnel are working with the Skowhegan Police Department to further investigate the phishing scheme.
