The state has selected Cianbro Corp., of Pittsfield, to build a new 8,300-square-foot 21-bed secure forensic rehabilitation facility in Bangor.
The Bangor Daily News reported the goal is to alleviate overcrowding at Augusta’s Riverview Psychiatric Center.
Under the request for qualifications for the project, the building contractor will purchase 6.28 acres of state-owned property for the facility then lease it to the state for 30 years.
“The next steps for this project are for the State of Maine to begin negotiating a lease with Cianbro,” David Heidrich Jr., director of communications for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, told the paper.
In June, Cianbro, Maine's largest construction company, landed a $23 million contract from the U.S. Navy for improvements to a dry dock at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.
And it will partner with Northland Associates Inc. of Liverpool, N.Y., in a $215 million multi-phase contract to modernize and expand facilities at the U.S. Land Port of Entry in Alexandria Bay, N.Y.
