Waterfront Concerts inks new 10-year contract with Bangor

Quarterback-turned-singer Sam Hunt drew a big crowd in Bangor this summer for Waterfront Concerts.
Waterfront Concerts, the company that puts on Bangor’s summertime music series on the banks of the Penobscot River, has signed a new 10-year contract with the Queen City.
The new contract, which takes effect immediately to replace one that had expired, will run until Nov. 1, 2027, according to owner Alex Gray.
In a press release, Waterfront Concerts cited a recent study by University of Maine economist Todd Gabe showing a $105.1 million contribution in revenue to Bangor and the surrounding areas from 2010-2016 from the concerts.
“The staff at Waterfront Concerts, Production Services of Maine and I are pleased to be a part of the Bangor region business community for another 10 years,” Gray said in a news release. “The completion of this agreement will allow us, in time, to make the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion a world class facility.”
Tanya Emery, Bangor’s director of community and economic development, said via email that the city is “pleased to have another 10 years to work with Waterfront Concerts on building Bangor into an even greater arts and culture destination. The longer-term contract gives them the ability to consider some of the improvements that have been discussed, such as bathrooms and a sound array system, that will improve the venue experience.”
She added: “We are thrilled to know that in addition to amazing live music at our small venues and the Cross Insurance Center, we will continue to have music on the banks of the Penobscot River for the foreseeable future.”
The Bangor Daily News had reported on the contract negotiations in May.
