Portland’s Danforth Inn, a West End luxury establishment that avoided foreclosure earlier this year when its owners filed for bankruptcy, has gone on the market for $2.595 million.
According to the online listing by RE/MAX, the property was originally built in 1805 but has undergone major renovation, led by John Calvin Stevens around the turn of the century.
“Today the property is both grand and approachable,” according to the listing, which also says it is positioned for many uses and could easily be returned to a single-family residence.
It would presumably be for a very large family. The red brick building takes up 12,000 square feet and has nine bedroom suites with 11 full and 2 half baths, 11 fireplaces and a billiard room. The expansive lot includes manicured gardens and parking.
Owners Raymond Brunyanszki and Oscar Verest bought the Federal-style mansion for $2.4 million in 2014, according to press reports. They filed for bankruptcy in March and closed the Tempo Dulu restaurant and Opium bar inside the hotel.
