$13M Brunswick Downeaster facility expands Boston service

The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority is set to unveil its $13 million train facility in Brunswick this weekend, which, when fully operational, will allow the Amtrak Downeaster to run a third train between Brunswick and Boston.

But not everyone in the neighborhood is keen on the 60,000-square-foot facility, which will allow the Passenger Rail Authority to service trains overnight, according to The Portland Press Herald.

For the past several years several neighbors have voiced their concerns about the potential of pollution, loud noise and its impact on property values. As the Press Herald reported, the last stand for the detractors came in November 2015, when the Maine Board of Environmental Protection stood behind a decision granting a critical storm water permit for the facility.
