$1.9M grant to boost health care work force

A $1.9 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will help Maine add to its health care work force.

The grant, part of a total of $320 million awarded nationwide under the Affordable Care Act, will fund training and other programs to combat Maine's shortage of primary health care workers, including physicians, physician assistants and nurses, according to the Portland Press Herald. The need for health care workers is expected to grow in Maine as the population's average age continues to increase and expanded access to health insurance increases demand for services.
