Significant professional accomplishment: Following my dream to start this company. After working in a raw bar as the only female shucker, I fell in love with sustainable aquaculture’s environmental and human health benefits. I sought to diversify the impact on the direct-to-consumer supply chain by sourcing products directly from women to provide the best experiential, raw-bar events with local clients that elevate the Maine brand and harness the power of partnerships to target intersectionality in our community.
Traveling has allowed us to expand our reach into broader audiences to support our vision to co-create an equitable seafood future and increase visibility and revenue for underrepresented groups in the sector.
Passion project: My longtime passion is building a value-added market for upcycled goods made from oyster shells. Oysters take 2 1/2 to three years to grow in Maine and every shell from our events is hand-opened and collected into a pile where it dries on land to cure. In addition to shell recycling for oyster reef restoration efforts, making shell earrings, living soils and using them in landscaping projects are all of interest for a closed-loop system.
Audacious goal: To one day have our own brick-and-mortar space. Maybe it’s a restaurant and raw bar, an event barn to host weddings, or maybe it’s a facility near our oyster farm. Whatever comes through, the goal is to create more opportunities for individuals of any background to learn about these world-class products and celebrate all they provide.
