$95M in bonds net lawmaker approval

The Legislature yesterday voted in favor of $95 million in bond proposals that would fund transportation, research and development and education. The five bond packages head to voters in November.

The bonds include $51 million for transportation projects; $20 million for R&D; $11.3 million for education; $7.92 million for sewer and water projects; and $5 million for the Land for Maine's Future program, according to MaineToday Media. Both the House and Senate approved the bonds with two-thirds majority before adjourning, according to The Associated Press.

The appropriations committee last month approved the bonds, prompting Gov. Paul LePage to reiterate his opposition to additional bonding until the state addresses other budget problems. Lawmakers approved an $83 million revised budget earlier this week.
